Hull’s community coming together to raise funds to race its own powerboat in the P1 Powerboat Championships 2013.
Just last week Sangwin Plant Hire played an important role in getting the P1 Powerboat back on track (or should that be, back to sea!) to race.
The following is taken from the OneHullofaboat website:
“You may have seen from the tweets that we’ve had a bit of a panic this last week or so. With the Torquay race weekend taking place on 10th and 11th August we have faced a race against time to find a replacement race crew and a boat transfer to Devon!
Getting the boat to Torquay wasn’t as simple as it sounded (let’s be honest – what, on this journey, has been?!). The lifting rig in Hull Marina has been out of action since it lifted in a very heavy boat a fortnight ago. Ironically, the boat was called Optimist. Which is what we have all become on a daily basis waiting for the rig to be fixed? Anyway, yesterday we could wait no longer, and sent some pleading tweets for help with the lift.
After a failed attempt with the Marina’s back up Manitou (huge forklift) on Monday night, and knowing that the P1 driver was on his way up from Southampton to collect the boat, things got pretty desperate! Fortunately Springboard Chair, and boat lawyers Gosschalks’ Business Development Manager, Steve Savage came to the rescue, and put us in touch with local firm Sangwin, who successfully lifted the boat at lunchtime today, Tuesday.
We’re so grateful to them for sending one of their powerful cranes to lift our very precious cargo and it just goes to show the lengths that local businesses will go to to help with this venture. She is now safely on her way down to join her fellow race mates at Powertech in Southampton. They all set off tomorrow for Torquay”.
