Project Greenergy Biodiesel Plant at Simons StorageDownload PDF
Location: Henderson Quay, Immingham Docks
Client: Desmet Ballestra s.p.a.
Project Value: £2.2 million
Package: Civil Engineering/Structural/Concrete/Drainage & Pavements
Project Detail: This project was built in 2006 and 2007 as two phases, firstly under the Project Management of Simons Projects, and then Projen PLC. The piling was already in place and we commenced at pile cap level preparing the foundations for the erection of Structural Steelwork. Bases were constructed for all of the major items of plant and a drainage system was incorporated leading to a settlement tank. The work took 13 weeks from start to commencement of Structural Steelwork and was classed as a critical path activity. Once the Steelwork was erected we returned onto a multi-contractor site to grout, apply floor finishes and to construct the suspended floor slabs. Sangwin provided the following added benefits within our package:

  • With the knowledge gained on phase 1, we were able to give Projen a fully detailed programme for Civil Works including early release of vessel bases that had to be installed prior to Structural Steelwork and the treatment to the concrete floor.
  • We attended design meetings to assist both Simons and Projen to understand the Civils design requirements of Ballestra design including discharge, additional sumps, lightning protection and fire suppression.
  • We worked very closely with the Italians when they wished to make design changes to suit the process as it was more cost effective to alter the Civil Works rather than the Mechanical installation.

On the same site we constructed a Tank Farm, Monitoring Station and the Roads and Sewers for Simon Storage to service the Biodiesel plant. The full project value of our works over an 18 month period was £2.2 million.
