Corporate Social Responsibility and Sangwin’s Role over the last 140 years to the City and East Riding of Yorkshire
With over 140 years serving the Hull and East Riding community, Sangwin Group still remains a family business and fully appreciates and understands its commitment, responsibility and role in supporting the local community. With such a legacy, Sangwin has over the years been involved in numerous different projects supporting local community schemes. We regularly donate to local and national charities and over the last 5 years have supported Dove House Hospice through events and by entering teams in the Hull 10K and more recently it donated chairs to its new extension meeting room.. Other charities include Hull Breast Friends and Smile Foundation.
We support local amateur rugby league teams such as Myton Warriors and we have advertised at Hull Ionians rugby union for over 10 years.
In professional sport the Group has been involved with Hull City, sponsoring Liam Rosenior in 2012-13, Maynor Figueroa in 2013-14 and Sone Aluko in 2014-15.
During the 2012-13 rugby league season we supported Hull AFC with a pitch side advert and in the same season we also sponsored the matchball at the local Hull FC versus Hull KR derby game and a further matchball sponsorship at a Hull KR game.
In addition to sponsoring local sport Sangwin like to support local campaigns in the Hull Daily Mail, such as, in an article congratulating Hull City on promotion to the Premier League.
The company recognises the need to support local schools and assist in helping students get ready for the workplace and we were therefore delighted to be involved in Hull City Council’s annual Global Entrepreneurship Week. In 2013 the company worked with the team at the council in setting up a challenge for the students to design a piece of furniture that would be marketable and fit for purpose in a school. The winning team was then invited to visit our factory to see their design go into manufacture. The winner was Newland School for Girls, chosen for their mobile computer table with storage facilities for books, ipads and equipment.
In 2012 we provided sponsor money to Global Entrepreneurship week and our Managing Director was involved as a judge in one of the projects set for the students.
Other work that the company is involved in with schools includes work experience and taking on trainee business administration apprentices as well as working with local colleges for trades apprentices.
Sangwin’s Senior Managers and Directors often give their time and experience to assist in projects with schools. Until the closure of a local school, one Director sat on the Board of the School Governors. Another Director sat on the One Hull Business Advisory Committee and the Managing Director sits on the Chamber Business Council Committee. Our Managing Director has recently been appointed President of the Yorkshire Builders Federation and part of his role is to oversee a fund set aside for training and development within the industry.
Sangwin often have classes and schools coming to look around the Educational Furniture Factory and during this time, members of staff dedicate their time talking to the groups about Manufacturing.
